About the Role

The Financial Times is seeking a Production Journalist for the Opinion and Analysis department to work on Opinion, Big Read, Work and Careers, Leaders, and Letters content for both online and print. This role is ideal for an ambitious journalist looking to expand their experience, contribute to editorial debates, and make an impact in a flexible and collegial team.

Responsibilities

  • Write catchy headlines, standfirsts, and captions.
  • Create punchy print headlines.
  • Set up and edit page layouts.
  • Liaise with columnists and leader writers.
  • Cooperate and be flexible, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
  • Work efficiently under deadline pressure.
  • Propose innovative ideas to improve reader engagement.
  • Cover web and print content using Spark, Methode, and Slack.
  • Produce and edit the FT’s letters section.
  • Perform basic page layout or learn the skill.
  • Utilize data and charts confidently.

Requirements

  • Meticulous sub-editing, editing, revising, web production, and page layout skills across Features sections.
  • Ability to join the rota of stand-in Letters editors and work one in five Sundays.
  • Refrain from using AI in test submissions.
  • Ensure written materials are a genuine reflection of own knowledge, skills, and experiences.
  • Employ AI only as a tool for research and interview readiness.
