About the Role
The SDK team designs, builds, and maintains the APIs, libraries, and tools that empower third-party developers to create applications interacting with the Canton ledger and network. These solutions are primarily mission-critical workflows in the financial and insurance sectors. As a software engineer, you will work with cutting-edge technology across the full stack, from database back-end and Pekko Stream implementation to gRPC, HTTP interfaces, and Java/TypeScript client libraries.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the SDK’s Scala code base.
- Collaborate with teams like Canton Ledger on API integration and the product team on developer education.
- Harden and test APIs for production non-functional requirements, focusing on performance, scalability, and security.
- Provide code reviews, feedback, and help set direction for team members.
- Follow a collaborative approach that embraces diverse perspectives, ensuring everyone contributes and opinions are valued.
Requirements
- Experienced Scala software engineer with demonstrated experience through open-source libraries or commercial work.
- Specialization in either database development or writing secure APIs.
- Experience with developing and deploying production systems.
- Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Functional Relational Mappings in Scala (slick, anorm, doobie, or others).
- Solid understanding of network protocols and libraries (HTTP, gRPC, Netty, Tapir, etc.).
- Ability to empathize with API users to help them write efficient, robust, and idiomatic client code in various languages (e.g., TS, Python).
- Experience writing secure APIs.
- Familiarity with technologies like TLS, JWT, Auth0.
- Knowledge of common attack vectors and their mitigation.
- Prior exposure to security audit procedures is a strong plus.
- Experienced with reactive streams (especially akka/pekko) is a strong plus.
