About the Role

Utility Profit is seeking an AI-native Product Lead to manage a key product area, driving it from initial customer discovery through to achieving measurable business outcomes. This leadership role involves direct customer engagement, problem identification, strategic planning, user experience design, prioritization, and leading a small product pod. You will leverage modern AI tools for coding, design, research, and analytics to build prototypes, analyze data, test technical concepts, design user experiences, and contribute to software development. Reporting to product leadership, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Design, Operations, Sales, and customers.

Responsibilities

Own a meaningful customer or business problem within a small, focused team.
Develop a deep understanding of customers, users, and operational teams.
Conduct customer interviews, observe workflows, analyze support conversations, study product behavior, and identify problems.
Transition quickly from customer discovery to a usable product.
Define the strategy, goals, and priorities for the product area.
Translate customer problems and company priorities into focused product goals.
Clearly communicate what the team should build, its importance, success metrics, and what is not being pursued.
Use data, customer evidence, technical understanding, and business judgment for decision-making.
Utilize AI-assisted coding and prototyping tools to create working software.
Build prototypes, workflows, internal tools, integrations, and product improvements.
Design the complete product experience, including workflows, edge cases, error states, trust, communication, and operational needs.
Develop realistic interfaces from initial ideas based on customer feedback.
Gain deep familiarity with the systems supporting the product area.
Collaborate with engineers to understand architecture, constraints, dependencies, data flows, reliability risks, and tradeoffs.
Establish clear success metrics.
Evaluate results using product analytics, operational data, customer feedback, and direct observation.
Work closely with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Support, Design, and the Executive Team.
Communicate progress, decisions, risks, results, and lessons learned clearly.

Requirements

Owned a meaningful product, workflow, business area, or customer problem from discovery through launch and iteration.
Strong ability to speak with customers, ask insightful follow-up questions, and identify underlying problems.
Skilled at translating qualitative feedback into product insights.
Comfortable engaging in customer calls, examining product data, designing experiences, and discussing technical questions with engineers.
Proactively seeks opportunities to create, test, and learn.
Experience building prototypes, automations, analyses, internal tools, workflows, websites, integrations, or functional software.
Actively uses AI tools to enhance work speed and quality.
Experience experimenting with AI-assisted coding, research, analysis, prototyping, or design.
Developed judgment regarding the power and limitations of AI tools and how to review their output.
Comfortable with product systems and data, including inspecting logs, session events, exploring dashboards (e.g., Datadog, Metabase), writing/modifying SQL queries, and making minor adjustments to modern web applications (e.g., CSS).
Willingness to independently investigate technical questions and use AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) for scoped improvements or system understanding.
Proficient in creating product flows and interface concepts.
Experience using a design system to develop realistic user experiences.
Experience in an early-stage or rapidly growing technology company.
Communicates directly and precisely, explaining problems, decisions, tradeoffs, and outcomes without jargon.
Moves quickly and effectively, distinguishing activity from progress.
Knows when to prototype, ship a narrow first version, or adopt a more deliberate approach for reliability, security, or trust.
Identifies unclear areas, finds necessary people or information, and advances work.
