About the Role
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for maintaining quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products and recording quality results. This role works within a team of other Quality Control professionals, with work assignments given by the Inspection Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Inspects incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting unacceptable materials.
- Inspects in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and communicating required adjustments to the production supervisor.
- Inspects finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for rework, and confirming rework.
- Ensures manufactured or purchased products meet print specifications, Mil-Specs, quality standards, and AS9100 requirements using various methods.
- Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs, and inputs data into the quality database.
- Makes mathematical calculations to measure parts and compares measurements to blueprints.
- Verifies that purchased products from suppliers conform to company quality standards.
- Approves the first piece manufactured for production.
- Checks various jobs in progress to ensure machine settings have not changed or operator errors have not occurred.
- Maintains measurement equipment by following operating instructions, maintaining the calibration system, and calling for repairs when necessary.
- Contributes to the improvement of inspection procedures and work instructions.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of Mechanical Inspector experience preferred, or equivalent proven skills and expertise.
- Experience documenting first piece and first article inspection results IAW AS9102.
- Capable of reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints, Mil-Specs, and related documents.
- Strong knowledge of shop math.
Skills
- Visual and measurement tests
- Using various measuring equipment including micrometers, protractors, calipers, height gages, and optical comparators.
- Knowledge of Net-Inspect a plus.
- Knowledge of GD&T, preferred.
- CMM and OGP experience, preferred.
