About the Role

This role combines pre-press expertise with team, supplier, and workflow management for an established independent publisher.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day production of books, magazines, and point-of-sale materials, ensuring files are technically ready for print.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve pre-press issues related to fonts, color profiles, and PDF compliance.
  • Review proofs and specifications to identify potential production issues and maintain high standards.
  • Prioritize multiple projects and work with an international supplier base on production requirements, schedules, and issue resolution.
  • Manage and support a small Production team, providing technical guidance on pre-press and file-related issues.

Requirements

  • Experienced production professional with considerable hands-on pre-press expertise.
  • Comfortable working directly with files and solving technical problems.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong practical pre-press and print production experience.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Confidence inspecting and troubleshooting InDesign files and PDFs.
  • Strong understanding of fonts, color profiles, PDF compliance, and print-ready file preparation.
  • Good knowledge of commercial print processes, including practical experience of both color and mono production.
  • Strong proof-checking skills.
  • Experience managing multiple production projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience working with external print and production suppliers.
  • Experience managing or supervising a small team.
  • Confidence to provide technical guidance and find practical solutions to production problems.
  • Experience gained within publishing (desirable).
  • Experience working with an international print and production supplier base (desirable).
