About the Role
Black Ore is seeking a Forward Deployed Accountant (FDA), a CPA embedded within customer tax workflows. This role serves as the primary point of contact for firms, managing onboarding, training, issue resolution, and optimizing tax preparation processes. The FDA will support active deals as a tax-technical expert, own accounts post-signature to drive adoption and monitor usage, and provide crucial product feedback to the R&D team. This position is ideal for individuals with deep public accounting experience looking to blend tax practice with AI.
Responsibilities
- Own book of accounts end-to-end, running kickoff, project plans, and weekly cadences.
- Drive adoption and change management by training staff and embedding the product into workflows.
- Monitor platform usage and proactively re-engage accounts at risk of renewal.
- Support the sales team pre-sale by joining demos and prospect calls as the tax-domain expert.
- Flag expansion signals to Account Executives when firms approach capacity.
- Capture edge cases and user feedback, partnering with AI/Data/Engineering on resolutions.
- Configure and verify environments, roles, and readiness checks on representative workflows.
Requirements
- CPA or EA credential
- 3+ years of experience preparing tax returns
- 2+ years of 1040 experience: Hands-on 1040 prep/review in a CPA or tax services setting
- Familiarity with tax software such as CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters GoSystem, UltraTax, Intuit ProConnect, Lacerte, ProSeries, Drake
- Detail-oriented with strong tax review/tie-out skills
- Comfortable in front of customers across the lifecycle, building trust and managing expectations
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organization and project management skills to plan, track, and deliver against timelines
- Tech-savvy with modern AI tools and quick to learn new products and workflows
- 2+ years of 1065 experience: Hands-on 1065 prep/review with large, complex partnerships (Preferred)
- Prior use of OCR solutions like SurePrep 1040SCAN, CCH AutoFlow, GruntWorx (Preferred)
- Experience with portal & document management systems like CCH, Thomson Reuters, SafeSend (Preferred)
- Prior customer-facing experience such as CSM, implementation, or client-advisory work (Preferred)
- History of creating new processes and playbooks in fast-moving environments (Preferred)
