About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Highway Department and take a leading role in the design and execution of critical transportation projects across New York State. In this role, you’ll manage projects through the full lifecycle—from planning and design to construction support—while mentoring junior engineers and fostering strong client relationships. You’ll bring deep technical expertise in highway design modeling and a collaborative mindset to help deliver innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. You’ll also play a key role in leading and expanding our premier transportation practice in Western New York.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept development through construction and closeout.
- Provide technical leadership and ensure quality and efficiency at every stage.
- Apply advanced knowledge in transportation design to develop creative, efficient solutions for roadway and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare design reports, plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and project management best practices.
- Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Understand client goals and expectations to deliver solutions that exceed requirements and build long-term trust.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in transportation design, with a strong focus on NYSDOT/Federal Aid projects
Skills
- Proficiency in MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with clients and stakeholders
