About the Role
The IT Support Engineer works independently and in cooperation with department management to plan, coordinate, and implement large information technology (IT) systems. This position will evaluate, implement, facilitate, and maintain IT systems including servers, desktops, laptops, applications, and security.
Responsibilities
- Manage server and desktop operating system and application deployments and upgrades, including creating procedures, policies, and systems for deployment and packaging applications.
- Install and rebuild existing servers, configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage.
- Lead IT functions for new server and desktop technology deployments, managing hardware lifecycles and working with management on hardware acquisition.
- Stay current with known system issues related to operating systems or software conflicts.
- Stay current with capabilities of current server and desktop operating systems and end-user devices through research and test lab environments.
- Identify and troubleshoot problems in a timely manner, providing assistance to service desk members for complex issues.
- Maintain appropriate communication with users and/or management until problem resolution, providing on-call, after-hours support as needed.
- Assist in creating a strategic roadmap for all server and desktop systems, including policy recommendations, directions, timelines, managing budgets, and analyzing/recommending purchases based on need or lifecycle.
- Independently and within ad-hoc teams, identify solutions for end-users to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness by leveraging existing system resources and software or researching potential solutions.
- Work with IT staff on technology integration to enhance application and network users’ productivity.
- Stay current with capabilities of current server and desktop operating systems and installed systems by researching and seeking affordable support training options for the team.
- Keep manager informed of important developments, potential problems, and necessary information for effective management.
- Coordinate and communicate plans and activities with others as appropriate to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of desktop computing equipment, including serial numbers, licensing, and configuration information, ensuring it is searchable and reportable.
- Perform related work as apparent or assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, specialized IT training, or equivalent work experience.
- At least three years of desktop hardware and software support.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Vsphere, HorizonView).
- At least three years of related work experience in Windows Server and Desktop Operating Systems and applications.
- Experience with Operating System Deployment.
- Experience with Application packaging, maintenance, and deployment.
- Experience with SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) preferred.
- Experience with Cloud Infrastructure systems (Azure,AWS,GCP,etc) preferred.
- Macintosh and Apple product experience in an enterprise setting a plus.
- Experience troubleshooting a wide variety of hardware and software problems and supporting end users.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of Company personnel.
- Availability and willingness to work irregular hours.
