About the Role
Act as a personal representative of the hotel, providing guests with service that reflects the high standards of the Royal York when seating, serving, and greeting guests. You are the first and last person the guest encounters during their dining experience, therefore, your professionalism is essential in accurately portraying the service excellence of the hotel and restaurant.
Responsibilities
- Report to duty punctually to maintain the integrity of co-workers and guests.
- Consistently offer personal and friendly service.
- Have full knowledge of the menu, beverage lists, and special promotions.
- Ensure the host stand is kept neat and clean at all times.
- Have a complete understanding of daily duties including seating, greeting, taking reservations, handling phones, menu changeovers, newspaper pickup, and filing log book entries.
- Efficiently track all covers in the dining room per station and have general knowledge of the union agreement.
- Help guests meet their colleagues by properly using the waiting list form.
- Attend all pre-shift, weekly, and monthly meetings to ensure open communication.
- Actively participate in health and safety procedures to reduce workplace accidents.
- Read and understand all hotel policies, procedures, and departmental standards.
- Carry out miscellaneous duties pertaining to the outlet's operation as requested by a supervisor.
- Feel comfortable voicing opinions, suggestions, and comments on improving the restaurant's operation and guest experience.
- Maintain teamwork and good work ethics with all guests by assisting co-workers without compromising the guest's dining experience.
- Complete all assigned duties before leaving for the day.
- Communicate effectively with servers regarding reservations, changes, large parties, and special requests.
- Offer guests coat check when necessary and retrieve guest coats when departing.
- Inform guests of departmental promotions.
Requirements
- Previous work experience in a restaurant/food and beverage setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
- Ability to multitask when dealing with a high volume of guest requests.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must have Smart Serve.
Skills
- Open Table experience is an asset.
