About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider.
  • Manages the check-in and registration process.
  • Interviews patients and measures vital signs.
  • Records patient information on charts.
  • Draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Conducts patient registration, including securing paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility.
  • Processes co-pays and schedules patient appointments.
  • Coordinates provider referrals to specialists.
  • Answers patient questions regarding their care and keeps them informed of their status.
  • Informs technical staff of patient flow.
  • Prepares patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm the purpose of the visit.
  • Performs preliminary physical tests for vital signs and escalates critical cases to the provider as needed.
  • Conducts point-of-care testing as needed and provides patient information to the provider.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains exam rooms, front desk, and reception area.
  • Completes order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels and checks expiration dates on supplies.
  • Maintains medical records and scans charts to patient files.
  • Answers phone calls, collects and sorts daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence.
  • Ensures the reception area is well-maintained.
  • Conducts courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
  • Performs opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building.
  • Follows operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintains Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment, troubleshoots breakdowns, performs preventive maintenance, and submits repair tickets as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Front Desk experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Under one year of Medical Assistant experience requires one of the following Certifications at the time of hire: CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA.
  • In lieu of an approved MA Certification, candidates may have 1+ years of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital or Urgent Care Setting, OR 1+ years of working phlebotomist experience.
  • Candidates who do not hold an approved Medical Assistant certification at the time of hire must obtain one within 15 months of their start date.
  • In lieu of an approved MA Certification, we will also accept one of the following at the time of hire: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing or LPN or RN, EMT, CNA.
  • CPOE certification for order entry is required within two weeks of start date.
