About the Role
Under the supervision of an RN, assists in all services necessary for proper operation of Outpatient Urology.
Responsibilities
- Performs shaving, clipping and prepping as required under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis and disinfection in the care of supplies, instruments and the environment.
- Adheres to point of use cleaning according to policies and procedures, and orients new staff to the disinfection process.
- Identifies the principles of sterile technique and applies them under supervision during procedures.
- Sets up necessary equipment for and assists in procedures under the supervision of an RN or MD.
- Handles all equipment safely and ensures it is in working order.
- Notifies management of equipment defects or damage and follows proper reporting protocol.
- Assists in room turnover and sets up for procedures.
- Prepares instruments for sterilization, including decontamination and high-level disinfection.
- Stores and rotates instrument trays, and opens sterile supplies using sterile technique.
- Prepares procedural fields with sterile supplies and preps the patient for urologic procedures.
- Ensures patient safety by exercising aseptic techniques and preventing hazards.
- Continually monitors and reports any breaks in aseptic technique.
- Ascertains that all specimens are properly identified and reviewed.
- Adheres to standard precaution guidelines when handling/transporting specimens and/or cultures.
- Participates in Universal Protocol (correct patient, site, timeout, etc.).
- Exhibits high level of time management skills and flexibility.
- Ensures each exam room is stocked appropriately daily.
- Orders, returns, and maintains appropriate supplies for the office.
- Suggests better utilization of supplies and potential savings.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth unit operation.
Requirements
- Outpatient urology experience preferred.
- EPIC Ambulatory experience preferred.
- Two years direct patient contact preferred.
- BLS Required.
- Certified Nurses Assistant, Medical Assistant or equivalent (student nurse who has completed one semester of clinical experience).
- Assists in urology procedures.
- Maintains sterility.
- High level disinfectant knowledge and use of the Trophon.
- Communicates with patients, teammates, and providers in a confident and clear manner.
- Walking, standing, bending, squatting, reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds.
