About the Role
Responsible for non-invasive cardiology diagnostic testing, including Holter monitoring, event monitoring, electrocardiograms, stress testing, nuclear stress testing, and noninvasive vascular testing.
Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for stress testing by explaining the procedure, risks, and discharge instructions, accurately placing electrodes, monitoring patient status, and processing paperwork.
- Prepares patients for Holter and event monitor tests by explaining instructions, accurately placing electrodes, charging the appropriate test, and recording serial numbers in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Prepares and monitors patients in the Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehab Program, demonstrating knowledge of exercise equipment operation and vital sign monitoring.
- Performs 12-lead and rhythm strip EKGs on adult and pediatric patients, recognizing artifacts and abnormal rhythms, troubleshooting, obtaining stat interpretations, and charting EKGs.
- Obtains pertinent patient documents via the Hospital Information System or Cardiology/Ekg Management Database System and assists in maintaining system accuracy.
- Maintains cleanliness of EKG carts, stress equipment, Holter monitors, and event monitors.
- Safely operates all equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Cross-trains to other areas of Cardiology, including invasive cardiology and cardiac-pulmonary rehab.
- Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
Requirements
- 1 year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- 1 year of cardiology experience with EKG or stress testing experience.
- PC experience using Windows-based medical software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Eligible to become certified in Cardiology within a year.
