About the Role
San Francisco State University's School of Nursing seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Psychiatric-Mental Health to begin August 2027. The ideal candidate will have teaching and research interests in areas such as psychiatric and behavioral health disparities, social determinants of health, culturally responsive care, and trauma-informed care, with a commitment to diversity and academic excellence.
Responsibilities
- Graduate and undergraduate teaching in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
- Mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students.
- Developing an active scholarship program in one's specialty area.
- Engaging in committee and service assignments.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in nursing or a related field (Ed.D., DNP), completed by the first day of employment.
- Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.
- Eligible for or possess an active, unencumbered RN license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Strong background in psychiatric-mental health work.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring nursing students, particularly from minoritized and underserved communities.
- Commitment to equity in teaching and the promotion of diversity.
- Strong communication, writing, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively.
- Evidence of interpersonal skills and collegiality.
- Active record of and demonstrated excellence in scholarship related to psychiatric-mental health nursing.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to service or research activities engaging underrepresented communities.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural or interprofessional communication and collaboration.
- Research interests that contribute to diversity and equity within the discipline and healthcare sphere are preferred.
