About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for the conception, implementation, and further development of the Kubernetes bootstrap and installation process for nodes in a highly secure air-gapped environment. A focus is placed on USB-ISO-based installation methods for systems without direct network connectivity, as well as etcd initialization and Kubernetes cluster formation. Additionally, you will develop and automate reliable installation, recovery, and reinstallation processes for Fog Nodes. You will collaborate with architecture, platform, security, and operations teams to ensure developed processes are secure, stable, automatable, and traceable. This includes creating and maintaining necessary technical documentation and runbooks.

Responsibilities

Conception and further development of Kubernetes bootstrap, installation, and cluster formation processes under air-gap conditions.
Development and automation of offline installations, particularly via USB-ISO, offline repositories, and PXE/iPXE.
Setup of Linux systems and etcd, including partitioning, encryption, backup/restore, and basic system configuration.
Development of robust recovery and reinstallation processes for Fog Nodes.
Creation and maintenance of installation guides, runbooks, and operational documentation, as well as coordination with architecture, security, platform, and operations teams.

Requirements

At least 3 years of in-depth practical experience in several of the following areas:
Kubernetes bootstrap and cluster initialization (e.g., with kubeadm, Talos, or comparable technologies).
Air-gap installations and offline deployments (e.g., USB-ISO, offline repositories, PXE/iPXE).
etcd and distributed key-value stores, including cluster formation, backup/restore, and disaster recovery.
Linux installation and system configuration, including partitioning, encryption, and basic system hardening.
Very good knowledge of shell scripting and YAML, as well as experience in automating installation and recovery processes.
Experience in creating technical installation guides, runbooks, and operational documentation.
Structured, independent, and solution-oriented approach in technically demanding environments.
Native-level German and proficient English language skills (written and spoken).
