About the Role
Curative is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to ensure high-quality, rapid delivery. This role involves owning shipped products, developing AI evaluation infrastructure, conducting exploratory testing, and collaborating with business teams to bridge the gap between requirements and implementation. The position requires comfort with ambiguity, speed, and a hands-on approach to debugging and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Own the eval platform, including harnesses, datasets, graders, and CI integration for measuring agent behavior.
- Conduct hands-on, exploratory testing of the product as used by members, operations teams, and providers.
- Validate that the correct product is built by collaborating with business stakeholders to understand workflows.
- Develop domain expertise in Curative's business operations.
- Establish production signal and bug hunting mechanisms, including traces, failure taxonomies, and dashboards.
- Exercise product judgment when necessary, including defining requirements and proposing behavior.
- Prioritize efforts effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.
Requirements
- 5+ years in software quality, testing, or engineering with experience in automation and exploratory testing.
- Fluency with LLM evaluation, including golden datasets, LLM-as-judge, programmatic graders, and regression suites.
- Hands-on experience with AI agents and understanding their failure modes.
- Strong testing instincts and a proven track record of finding bugs.
- Deep debugging skills using logs, traces, queries, and production forensics.
- Ability to fix bugs in Python or TypeScript.
- Fluency in working with business stakeholders to extract needs and ensure they feel heard.
- Comfort with ambiguity and speed, with the ability to start tasks without formal tickets or sprint boundaries.
- Pragmatic quality judgment, knowing when risks are acceptable.
- Sharp written communication skills to effectively convey findings.
- Use of AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor as a primary development tool.
- Ability to use AI to accelerate quality work and discern where AI judgment ends and personal judgment begins.
- Review of all AI-generated diffs before merging.
