About the Role

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for achieving long-term sales growth, margins, and profitability in their assigned territory. Success is achieved through technical sales support, sales lead generation, and general business development.

Responsibilities

  • Provides in-person sales coverage of an assigned territory, requiring the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Develops maximum sales potential out of assigned territory through competitive sales techniques and knowledge of the company's products and services, as well as the competition's strengths/weaknesses.
  • Builds and maintains quality relations with existing assigned accounts and grows account base and volume of sales consistently.
  • Contacts customers via telephone, correspondence, or in person by traveling as frequently as necessary to meet and surpass profitable sales goals for the company.
  • Creates customized proposals to meet specific customer requirements in an efficient manner.
  • Manages profit margins within company guidelines.
  • Receives and resolves customer requests promptly.
  • Utilizes company leads to expand the current customer base and follows up on all leads promptly.
  • Maintains updated, organized files on all accounts in the assigned territory.
  • Completes and submits sales reports on account activity.
  • Provides monthly documentation with outstanding proposals, proposals secured, and proposals lost.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and selling skills with a strong emphasis on value-based sales.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong technical knowledge of company products.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and reading skills, with the ability to communicate on all levels.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to work with Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets.
  • Discipline to be a self-starter and work independently.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of a geographic area.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Exposure to high levels of heat or noise may occur while visiting the customer's plant environment.
  • Moderate noise (i.e., computer printers, traffic) exists daily in the work environment.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, lift up to 25 pounds, and drive for long periods of time and distance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.
  • Travels regularly to customer locations to perform sales responsibilities and problem-solving.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Daily trips are expected to manage a successful territory.
