About the Role
The Director of Youth Services leads the Center’s Youth Services department, overseeing culturally responsive, trauma-informed supportive services for LGBTQQ youth ages 16–24, focusing on unhoused, disconnected, or transitioning youth. This leadership role manages team supervision, program design and implementation, budgets, outreach, external partnerships, departmental systems, funding contracts, and subcontractors. The Director also oversees drop-in programs, mental health services, and housing navigation and referrals, while advancing the organization’s values of equity, inclusion, service to the most vulnerable, accountability, and transparency.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain a healthy, values-driven team culture grounded in trust, accountability, belonging, and collective care.
- Directly supervise Youth Services managers and provide interim supervision when roles are vacant.
- Embed team leadership values into supervision, meetings, and daily operations, modeling generative conflict, anti-oppression, and racial justice-centered leadership.
- Support managers in fostering Healing Justice and Harm Reduction approaches.
- Identify opportunities for staff learning and professional development around vicarious trauma, crisis intervention, and healthy boundaries.
- Lead short- and long-term planning, implementation, evaluation, and budgeting across Youth Services.
- Develop, track, and assess annual program plans, aligning services with grant deliverables, contract requirements, organizational priorities, and community needs.
- Develop department-wide strategy while supporting effective program implementation, evaluation, continuous improvement, and data-informed reporting.
- Coordinate outreach, marketing, and communications with the Communications department.
- Bring expertise in youth-led program design and culturally responsive programming for LGBTQQ Transitional Age Youth, centering young people’s lived experiences, leadership, and expertise.
- Support cross-program alignment and collaboration in service delivery, reporting, and resource sharing.
- Use data and evaluation to assess impact, inform strategy, and support timely, accurate reporting.
- Cultivate strong relationships with funders, partners, networks, and community stakeholders.
- Serve as liaison to corporate, government, and foundation funders, including grant writing, deliverables, budgets, and reporting.
- Develop and manage program and grant budgets, maintain funder relationships, and support grant writing and administration.
- Develop annual budgets that align program needs with funding requirements and restrictions.
- Partner with the Director of Program Strategy & Impact on government contracts.
- Monitor program and grant budgets and adjust them as needed to meet deliverables.
- Coordinate Youth Services activities with Development, Communications, Volunteer Program, and other program teams.
- Participate in the Center’s leadership team and engage Youth Services staff in organization-wide initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of the needs, strengths, and experiences of vulnerable LGBTQQ Transitional Aged Youth and communities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse participants, staff, partners, funders, and community stakeholders.
- Minimum of 5–6 years of management experience, including staff supervision and team leadership.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting intersectional, multiracial teams with diverse lived experiences.
- Experience fostering inclusive, equitable, and values-aligned team cultures highly valued.
- Commitment to the SF LGBT Center’s mission and to racial, social, and economic justice.
- Experience with youth development, trauma-informed services, program design, implementation, and evaluation preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Experience managing teams through a racial equity lens and supporting shared leadership and decision-making.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Requires regular computer and office equipment use, periods of sitting or stationary work, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- May involve shared office space with moderate noise.
- Work hours are primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work.
- Schedules are negotiable within a standard 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. window.
- Local travel may be required for meetings or offsite events.
- Out-of-town travel is infrequent and negotiable.
