About the Role

Organizes project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules, and determines resource requirements. Monitors and reports on project status, including cost, timing, and staffing, ensuring adherence to quality standards. Manages complex engineering projects, including personnel, safety, quality, scope, schedule, and budget, to achieve successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

Manages all project lifecycle stages from initiation through close-out for highly complex projects and/or programs, ensuring deliverables comply with schedule.
Owns large-sized projects and/or programs under general direction, working independently with minimal support.
Manages and implements multiple projects, programs, and modifications concurrently.
Manages and oversees all internal and external resources' activities related to project implementation and procurement.
Ensures applicable licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code compliance, construction, and stakeholder requirements are incorporated into the project, especially during the initiation and design phases.
Develops and manages design documents/specifications, project presentations, Trustee Items, project funding requests, budgets, forecasts, and bid documents; evaluates bid proposals and makes award recommendations.
Partners with Construction Engineers, Engineering, Customers, or Service Providers in developing/negotiating contract change orders, preparing invoices, and coordinating construction sequencing and site outages.
Coordinates all field and design changes and quality testing/inspections.
Reviews and contributes to all project documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, assessment reports, asset and risk registries, budgets, forecasts, invoices, schedules, and variances.
Performs occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.
Supports and guides/mentors lower-level Project Engineer(s).
Provides supervision of maintenance department staff and contractors for assigned work and projects.
Prepares and monitors the day-to-day work activities of crafts.
Works with planners in scheduling work activities and oversees employee safety.
Reviews job packages to ensure completeness and currency prior to work performance.
Reviews completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify all steps are complete and all data/information is recorded.

Requirements

Expertise in project management of electrical, mechanical, structural, and/or water projects specific to the electric utility, canal/waterways, building systems, distributed energy resource, and/or electric vehicle industries.
Proven success in the management of technical and commercial aspects of complex projects and programs.
Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
Ability to develop project plans, timelines, and work schedules.
Ability to coordinate among customers, contractors, permitting agencies, etc.
Expertise with applicable codes, standards, regulations, project budgets, costs, project management software, and NYPA external stakeholders.
Ability to perform complex engineering calculations.
Ability to establish new standard specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State.
Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses.
Ability to travel to vendor facilities (worldwide) to support construction activities and inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning.
Availability to work outside of normal business hours (including weekends) when project demands.

New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 2 years.
Project or Program Management Professional certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
Design Build Institute of America certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification

Salary/Compensations

$146,000 - $182,000
