About the Role

We are building a local Enterprise Sales Pod in Tokyo, consisting of an Enterprise Account Executive and a Forward Deployed Engineer, to develop the Telnyx enterprise business in the Japanese market. You will work directly with enterprise customers to design and implement production systems on Telnyx's global network, covering voice, messaging, AI, and wireless technologies. This role focuses on building scalable, real-world solutions rather than just demonstrating products. You will partner closely with a dedicated Enterprise AE, who manages customer relationships and closes deals, while you own the technical aspects including discovery, architecture, Proof of Concepts (POCs), and production go-live.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges.
  • Build and deploy custom implementations: AI Voice Assistants, Telnyx APIs (Voice, Messaging, Fax, Wireless), WebRTC.
  • Run open-weight LLMs in customer environments, consuming models through Telnyx Inference or deploying self-hosted stacks.
  • Deploy and operate LiteLLM as the model gateway in customer environments.
  • Instrument and govern LLM usage through the gateway, including cost tracking, caching, observability, and guardrails.
  • Wire production observability for all deployed solutions, including metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting.
  • Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads, balancing latency, cost, and quality.
  • Make the build-vs-buy case between self-hosted open-weight models and hosted frontier APIs.
  • Adapt models to customer domains, including prompt and RAG pipelines for Japanese and English use cases and APAC-specific regulatory environments.
  • Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from concept to go-live.
  • Own customer outcomes, ensuring solutions are live and stable.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape the roadmap based on field insights from Japan and APAC.
  • Create clear technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues with customer teams.

Requirements

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building and shipping production software, including on-call and debugging.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, Node.js/TypeScript, or Go.
  • Practical understanding of production challenges with models, including rate limits, timeouts, token accounting, and failure modes under concurrency.
  • Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes, including secrets management, configuration, and upgrades.
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus + Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, ELK) and alerting.
  • High-concurrency experience with systems like Kafka, message queues, or event streams.
  • Experience building APIs from scratch, including OpenAPI spec, REST/GraphQL design, authentication, rate limiting, versioning, and idempotency.
  • Event-driven thinking and cloud-native development practices.
  • Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems.
  • Self-sufficient engineering approach, capable of reading code/docs and making sound judgment calls.
  • Customer-facing engineering experience, including discovery and executive presentations.
  • Ability to translate technical issues into root causes.
  • Comfortable working on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese.
  • Based in Tokyo, or willing to relocate.
  • Legally authorized to work in Japan, or eligible for sponsorship.
