About the Role

The Alarm System Auditor conducts listing and annual field audits for various intrusion and fire alarm system installations by examining and evaluating equipment and preparing audit reports. Reviews inspection results and corrective action measures for compliance with ULC listing requirements. Conducts revisits when the initial annual audit reveals the need for modifications and/or corrective actions. Establishes new listings for intrusion and fire alarm companies. Conducts listing and annual audits of facilities of signal receiving centre companies. Maintains and applies working knowledge of the latest alarm equipment technology.

Responsibilities

Conducts all intrusion and fire alarm system field audits and service tests to determine that assigned service companies are providing Certificates and service in compliance with ULC and other applicable requirements.
Records audit results to appropriate ULC forms.
Conducts annual field audits of all intrusion and fire alarm systems to verify that performance of the system, arrangement of monitoring devices, continuity of circuits, wiring of control units, and other security elements are consistent with the types of systems listed on the Certificates.
Prepares reports of findings and follows up to verify that deficiencies are resolved.
Conducts listing evaluations for all intrusion and fire alarm systems, by examining and evaluating equipment to verify that components are compatible with each other and the system meets applicable standards.
Prepares reports, correspondence and associated materials related to listing evaluations.
Communicates with customers to schedule appointments, discuss ULC requirements for listing compliance and explains results of field audit findings.
Provides information to Authorities Having Jurisdiction and other external bodies as required.
May assist in educating the public in areas of intrusion and fire alarm safety.
Conducts annual signal receiving centre company audits by examining and evaluating facilities to verify that the equipment, standby power, installation techniques, service, and buildings are in compliance with UL standards.
Conducts listing evaluations.
Reads and interprets equipment installation literature, wiring diagrams and building blueprints to verify that alarm system equipment and protection meet ULC requirements for installation, operation and maintenance.
Develops and manages a work schedule for annual work assignments.
Schedules appointments with customers, reviews files for a profile of past performance, selects certificates to be audited, and arranges travel schedules.
Conducts facility consultations by reviewing building plans/blueprints and performing site audits to evaluate suitability of construction materials, electrical systems, utilities, security, signal processing and administrative systems.
Analyzes previous years' audit reports to verify and check conformance.
Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

University or College Graduate in: Electronics, Electrical, Computer or System related fields preferred.
Signal Receiving Centre facility design, security, equipment and operations experience preferred
Five years of technical experience in Integrated Security Systems, Intrusion Alarms and Fire Alarms or Related Industry preferred.
CFAA Fire Alarm Technician License and/or ECAO certified is considered an asset.
Working knowledge of applicable testing apparatus and techniques common to the fire and intrusion alarm industry.
Technical knowledge of ULC Standards 1001, 301, 302, 536, 537, and 561 a plus.
Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and associated materials related to listing evaluations.
50% Mobility (Ability to travel up to 50% of the time).
Occasional use of own vehicle for business travel with reimbursement may be needed.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual language of English and French required.

$85,000 to $100,000 CAD
