About the Role
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan that believes education is key to creating opportunities. The Compass Elementary School Program provides high-quality programs and services. The Youth Educator will design and lead diverse enrichment activities, including homework help, robotics, team sports, karate, dance, and music, supporting youth's academic, social, and emotional development.
Responsibilities
- Identify, create, and facilitate age-appropriate, theme-based lesson plans and activities.
- Work collaboratively with specialists implementing activities.
- Prepare the learning environment by creating a welcoming space that exhibits participants' work.
- Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants by supervising all activities.
- Assist with participant enrollment and submit daily attendance records and other required documents.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, ensuring accountability and proper storage.
- Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing.
- Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including incident/accident/behavior reports and attendance records.
- Understand and communicate the East Side House Settlement mission and Compass program goals.
- Actively participate in professional development, supervision, team meetings, and training.
- Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, preparedness, professionalism, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Organize and participate in external special events to promote the Agency's mission and image.
- Adhere to all ESH policies, practices, and procedures.
