About the Role
This position performs moderately complex data collection, reporting, and analysis to monitor, evaluate, and increase efficiencies for Acute Care related services. The role involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data for fiscal estimates and deliverables, preparing technical reports, and assisting in defining and implementing data standards and quality measures.
Responsibilities
- Compiles, queries, and loads data points using SQL and other query languages into databases from various source formats to support complex analyses.
- Cleans and prepares data for access by other analysts and for data visualization.
- Consults on data use and best practices for analysts throughout the department.
- Understands and enforces data quality measures and metrics.
- Consults on improvements to data quality associated with processes.
- Ensures data integrity by identifying data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies.
- Coordinates with stakeholders to improve data quality.
- Interprets results to identify significant differences in data.
- Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
- Explains Provider Finance Department and Acute Care business processes.
- Negotiates for information and resources needed to ensure successful Program initiatives.
- Consults with internal and external stakeholders regarding Acute Care data needs and requests.
- Coordinates with Program subject matter experts to ensure accuracy of reporting tools, workflows, and reporting procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on data integrity, extraction, and compilation.
- Oversees development of high-quality written projects and reports.
- Consults on the selection of data management tools, development of standards, usage guidelines, and procedures.
- Understands, consults on, and implements data standards.
- Coordinates with others who collect, organize, analyze, and prepare materials in response to information requests and reports.
- Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data.
- Makes recommendations on revisions to data collection methodologies.
- Develops software applications or programming for financial analysis, statistical modeling, and graphic analysis.
- Performs other work as assigned or required to maintain and support the office and HHSC operations.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social science; business, including accounting and statistics; mathematics; physics; economics; health-related field; political science; or other closely related field.
- Education and work experience can be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience with Medicaid and/or healthcare finance preferred.
- Experience with SQL-based data querying software preferred.
- Applicants from outside Texas must be willing to relocate within 30 days of hire.
