About the Role

The Sustainable Finance & Transition Associate will support client engagement and origination, contribute to client sustainability insights, and originate sustainable finance across all products. This role is crucial for driving HSBC's ambition to be the leading international bank in sustainability and transition finance.

Responsibilities

  • Support client engagement and origination by working with GRBs on client planning, managing policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaires, and transition plan assessments.
  • Contribute to client sustainability insights and pitch propositions, collaborating with the Centre of Excellence and product partners.
  • Support the origination of sustainable finance across all products and assist with the execution of sustainable finance deals for loans.
  • Contribute to weekly reports for the regional team, highlighting volumes and key information on sustainable lending transactions.
  • Manage origination of non-sustainable finance labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue.
  • Contribute to the regional Sustainable Finance Forum (SFF) ambition to increase Sustainable Finance and Sustainable Lending origination.
  • Review and support the process of green, social, sustainable, and sustainability-linked financing transactions.
  • Manage greenwashing and other sustainability risks by supporting banking teams with managing risks arising from sustainability policies and executing sustainable finance transactions in collaboration with business sustainability risk and Risk & Compliance partners.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of banking products and experience working closely with coverage, transaction banking, and capital markets products.
  • Knowledge of key sustainability topics and experience in holding technical sustainability-related conversations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas, understand complex topics, and translate them into engaging written and visual content.
  • Experience in building strong relationships with first-line and second-line Risk partners and functions.
  • Demonstrated success in driving priority change with pace, setting, and handling realistic expectations.
  • Strong work diligence and accountability, ensuring timely and accurate execution of deliverables and maintaining clear, proactive communication.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, eager to accept new challenges and experience executing at pace.
