About the Role

The Education Liaison serves as a trusted, on-site resource connecting families in the Alice Griffith and Bret Harte communities to educational information, referrals, and support services. This role provides enhanced information and referral services for families in attendance-affected or at-risk households, and school-site based referrals for youth in neighborhoods historically marked by trauma, mistrust, and isolation. The Education Liaison builds trusted relationships to promote school attendance, family engagement, and long-term academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on-site resident engagement services to the Alice Griffith community, prioritizing families with elementary and middle school-aged children.
  • Provide neighborhood-based educational information and referrals to family-supportive services for attendance-affected and at-risk households.
  • Provide school-site based information and referrals for youth in neighborhoods of historical trauma, mistrust, and isolation.
  • Maintain a focal caseload of up to 20 households, prioritizing families with multiple elementary/middle school-age youth and high rates of tardiness or absence.
  • Coach parents and caregivers on their role as their child's education, reinforcing how missed school days and instructional minutes affect long-term learning.
  • Arrange, coordinate, and co-facilitate site-based education workshops on topics such as school attendance and parent participation.
  • Attend school-based meetings, representing program and family interests.
  • Collaborate with educational cohorts, mentors, and coaches to align programming.
  • Co-facilitate cohort programming, including reconnection and partner events, wellness workshops, and college and career exploration days.
  • Support ongoing programming, including the Walking School Bus program, Boys Leadership Group, Attendance Initiative, and literacy engagement.
  • Plan and support community celebrations and seasonal events.
  • Maintain a consistent, visible presence at community and school meetings to build trust and long-term partnerships.
  • Collect and record required program data, including outreach activity, referrals, workshop attendance, and school attendance information.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with families in historically underserved communities, ideally in school- or community-based settings.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License, a clean driving record, and reliable, regular transportation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and provide TB test clearance within the past two years.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and comfort presenting to and engaging groups of parents and caregivers.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and work collaboratively across multiple partner organizations and school-site teams.
  • Embraces cultural differences and is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage an outreach caseload, workshops, and meeting schedules across multiple sites.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom, and other technology platforms.
