About the Role

The Senior Accounting Manager provides leadership in the financial area of the hotel, focusing on profitability, accurate financial reporting, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and safeguarding assets. This role involves supplying management with guidance and training.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and communicate cash flow related issues, including accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements, cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms, and timely deposits.
  • Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording according to Highgate Hotels guidelines.
  • Monitor and control the hotel's cash flow and operating forecast.
  • Create annual budgets and perform monthly variance analysis, investigating and critiquing variances and offering improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure hotel compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and operational taxes, assisting management in enforcing compliance.
  • Analyze financial data and operations to advise management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Comply with Standard Accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
  • Timely review and approval of all balance sheet accounts, including monthly bank reconciliation and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Establish and continually audit all internal financial controls, including purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.
  • Successfully complete all internal and external financial audits, coordinating with CPA firms and delivering requested information.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff, including coaching, counseling, and discipline.
  • Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels standards and regulations for safe and efficient operation.
  • Direct or prepare all financial reports according to Highgate Hotels requirements, meeting due dates and deadlines.
  • Interact with Executive Committee members to ensure property operations are on track and under control.
  • Monitor hotel compliance in meeting required report deadlines and due dates.
  • Monitor the accurate production of the hotel daily operating report.
  • Execute other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of related progressive experience in hotel Accounting or related field; OR a 4-year college degree with an Accounting/Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of related progressive experience; OR a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of related progressive experience.
  • Proficient in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets and word processing, and hotel-specific systems.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and written with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Effective listening, understanding, and clarifying of concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc., from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
