About the Role
Legion Technical Solutions LLC is seeking a Chief Mechanical Design Engineer in Austin, TX, to lead spacecraft hardware development from concept to production. This leadership role involves shaping mechanical engineering capabilities and guiding innovative designs from concept to completion, addressing complex engineering challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design and development of complex systems, assemblies, and components.
- Oversee and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical direction and design reviews.
- Develop and manage engineering documentation including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure design integration.
- Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) best practices throughout the product lifecycle.
- Conduct structural, thermal, and mechanical analysis to validate design performance and reliability.
- Manage project timelines, engineering milestones, and technical risk assessments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive satellite mechanical design engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo.
- Strong background in FEA, thermal analysis, and mechanical simulation tools.
- Experience with GD&T, engineering drawings, Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE), and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- PE license (Professional Engineer) is a plus.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
