About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the ASW Launch Ops team, you will build the operational platform that transforms new markets from ideas into live, revenue-generating networks. This greenfield, high-ownership role involves establishing technical foundations for a platform intended to scale Zipline from tens to thousands of sites, replacing fragmented manual workflows with a unified, automated system. Your work will directly impact Zipline's global expansion and its ability to deliver critical supplies at scale.

Responsibilities

Drive core product domains, serving as a technical owner for critical capabilities across site acquisition, permitting, infrastructure design, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness.
Deliver measurable impact by reducing manual coordination, shortening site-launch timelines, improving launch-date predictability, and providing clear visibility into execution, dependencies, and risk.
Lead technical design by defining APIs, data models, service boundaries, and architectural patterns with a focus on maintainability, auditability, observability, and pragmatic evolution.
Build durable operational workflows that translate complex real-world processes into software supporting long-running workflows, government and vendor interactions, physical assets, documents, approvals, dependencies, state transitions, and exception handling.
Create a unified operational source of truth by building resilient integrations across ERP, GIS, document management, permitting, construction, project management, asset management, and internal operational systems.
Design for users by partnering directly with them to turn fragmented processes and data into intuitive tools for planning and execution, prototyping workflows, validating them, and driving adoption.
Own production excellence by building and operating business-critical services with meaningful health metrics, SLOs, observability, runbooks, and recovery mechanisms.
Remain deeply hands-on by shipping production code, reviewing critical changes, troubleshooting complex system behavior, and following major capabilities from discovery through deployment and operation.
Lead through influence by creating clarity in ambiguous problem spaces, identifying systemic risks and cross-team dependencies, and driving alignment across technical and operational stakeholders.
Elevate the team by mentoring peers, raising engineering standards, and strengthening practices in system design, automated testing, CI/CD, operational reliability, and pragmatic delivery.

Requirements

At least 5 years of professional experience developing and maintaining full-stack production systems at scale, or demonstrated equivalent technical mastery.
Product-minded engineering approach, understanding user needs, identifying root causes, and designing pragmatic solutions.
Systems perspective to break down ambiguous operational problems and collaborate with stakeholders.
Strong technical fundamentals in designing maintainable systems, data modeling, creating robust APIs, and making sound tradeoffs across frontend, backend, distributed systems, and infrastructure.
Experience with complex workflow modeling, including long-running workflows, external dependencies, physical assets, and complex state transitions with strong auditability, observability, and failure recovery.
Experience building reliable integrations between internal services and external or enterprise systems.
Comfortable learning and working across modern technologies such as Python, Go, PostgreSQL, React, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, Grafana, and Honeycomb.
Thoughtful use of AI throughout the development lifecycle.
Commitment to operational excellence, including defining service-health metrics, creating runbooks, participating in on-call rotations, and driving improvements through incident reviews.
Proven ability to ship high-impact capabilities with quantifiable results.
Strong cross-functional leadership skills, including clear communication under ambiguity, decisive prioritization, and influencing stakeholders.
Owner’s mindset, balancing speed with correctness and understanding operational consequences.
