About the Role

The Medical Affairs Medical Director will provide medical leadership for the Canadian Heme Team, accountable for developing and implementing the Canadian medical strategy and plans. This role will partner with cross-functional colleagues to ensure product access and develop country plans aligned with patient, HCP, and corporate needs. The position focuses on building scientific excellence, engaging with HCPs and scientific societies, and managing financial planning for medical affairs activities.

Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive expertise and guidance in Hematology and Gene Therapy.
Develops and maintains professional relationships with local Health Care Professionals and Professional Societies.
Establishes relationships with Thought Leaders to expand research opportunities and develops local advisory, collaborative, and/or educational activities aligned with company strategy.
Establishes and ensures flawless execution of the Canadian Medical Operational Plan, adhering to corporate policies, procedures, and local laws.
Serves as the medical reference for local operations and supports other functions to ensure safe patient access to products.
Ensures scientific data provided to HCPs and Health Authorities is fair and balanced.
Acts as the local medical contributor and reviewer/approver of Field Medical Material, Promotional Material, Access Material, and Medical Information Material for local use.
Maintains information flow within and between local structures, communicating medical insights to inform strategy and tactics.
Develops and maintains a high level of industry, regulatory, clinical, and scientific knowledge.
Leads a field team of scientific professionals.
Manages MSLs to implement field initiatives, ensuring best practices and compliant, scientifically-based materials through partnership with brand medical colleagues.
Leads the development and execution of external engagement and educational strategies for centers of excellence, HCPs, and thought leaders.
Identifies key deliverables, insights, and metrics to demonstrate the value and impact of the MSL organization.
Collaborates to identify gaps and develop solutions for field medical activities, including tools, technology, and training.

Requirements

Experience in Medical Affairs within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Ability to work across a complex matrix organization and influence at all levels.
Maintains a high level of expertise and judgment in technical and ethical aspects of a medical director role.
Ability to anticipate issues and be flexible and reactive to situations.
Experience in Haematology, Gene Therapy, and people management.
Knowledge of national healthcare and regulatory environments.
Excellent understanding of reimbursement mechanisms and the acceptability of PE models and PRO research by national payers.
Experience in scientific interactions with payer bodies is essential.
Knowledge and understanding of marketplace dynamics.
Track-record of ability to plan, initiate, and complete projects within allotted time frames and deliver high-quality results.
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team on common projects and goals at national and regional levels.
Capacity to critically analyze current scientific literature.
Good understanding of the basics of health economics and patient outcomes.
Skilled in effective presentations of clinical/scientific data.
Competence in the use of IT tools and standard software programs, including Web-based meetings.
English language fluent, written and spoken.
