About the Role
Black & McDonald’s Southern Ontario Utilities team is seeking an independent, enthusiastic, and driven Project Coordinator to support the Project Manager in the successful planning, organization, direction, control, and evaluation of assigned projects from start to finish, ensuring adherence to schedule, specifications, and budget. The role focuses on safety, planning, progress monitoring, scheduling, quality, cost management, estimating, reporting, and managing project changes.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager on projects to ensure project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards are met.
- Assist the Project Manager on field reports, ensuring timely submission to clients and processing invoices monthly.
- Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines.
- Complete quantity take-offs from construction drawings, track and update as-built quantities, and field verify when required.
- Assist in preparing contracts and negotiating revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Assist with project cost tracking, forecasting, budget analysis, and evaluation of project changes and their impacts.
- Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs.
- Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships.
- Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients.
- Coordinate trades and subcontractors.
- Manage document control.
- Purchase supplies and materials as required to complete projects.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of Project Coordination experience supporting utility construction projects.
- Experience working on Overhead and/or underground electrical distribution projects is preferred.
- Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License is required.
- A Criminal Background Check and Professional Reference Check will be required.
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

- Blueprint and drawing interpretation
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, civil and construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to understand financial reports, budgets, forecasts and cost tracking metrics
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- Experience with JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system is considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and innovative thinking
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment
