About the Role

The Case Assistant is an introductory level direct care position within the Jewish Board’s supported housing programs, assisting residents in living independently within the community. The role supports clinical and case associate staff by providing services aligned with program regulations and the agency's mission, focusing on a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach to help survivors of domestic violence and their families achieve recovery goals, stabilize, and develop independent living skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supports clinical and case associate staff in their work with residential clients.
  • Provides services to clients within program regulations and agency mission.
  • Sets up vacant apartments for new families admitted to the program.
  • Completes apartment inspections to ensure safety and sanitary conditions.
  • Completes intake phone screenings (with training and supervision).
  • Provides orientation and intake for new residents.
  • Develops and may run activity sessions.
  • Accompanies clients on trips and outings and supervises activities.
  • May work one-on-one with a client displaying significant stress.
  • Ensures residents understand facility rules and regulations.
  • Monitors and ensures security is maintained within the facility.
  • Conducts hourly rounds of the facility and documents all activity in the Communication logbook.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and trainings.
  • May travel to off-site meetings and trainings.
  • Completes regular and timely documentation of all client interactions, including informational notes.
  • Files incident reports as appropriate.
  • Shares client observations with the treatment team.
  • Immediately brings unusual issues to the supervisor's attention.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • HS degree/HSE Required.
  • One year of experience in a community mental health or human services setting preferred.
  • Willingness to work with a traumatized population, many with experiences of homelessness and substance use.
  • Compassion and respect for vulnerable individuals.
  • Patience and understanding for the stabilization and recovery process.
  • Familiarity with working in a Windows environment.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive agency van preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to travel to visit clients in apartments or to escort clients.
