About the Role

AI is central to Invoca's engineering strategy, with a focus on cultivating an agentic development ecosystem where artificial intelligence serves as an integral core partner in software design, building, testing, launching, and management. The Data Platform team builds and innovates on Invoca's core data infrastructure and analysis tooling, providing near real-time intelligence from call and SMS conversations and marketing signals. This role provides technical leadership for the Data Platform team, establishing strategic technical direction and driving the team's delivery plan to achieve high-impact releases.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the technical vision for Invoca's data platform across all product teams.
  • Design and build ingestion, streaming, and transformation pipelines for call and SMS conversation data and marketing signals.
  • Evolve the lakehouse architecture and core data analysis tooling.
  • Ensure product teams can safely and easily build on data without deep data infrastructure expertise.
  • Identify opportunities for shared platform investments to unlock new product capabilities or eliminate duplicated engineering effort.
  • Provide overarching architectural direction for the Data Platform across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers.
  • Raise the engineering bar through mentoring, design reviews, and hands-on guidance.
  • Own and execute the rolling 3-month delivery plan, translating roadmap strategy into clear priorities.
  • Navigate ambiguity and maintain accountability for shipping high-impact technical outcomes.
  • Drive alignment across engineering and product teams through clear technical reasoning and simplifying complex systems.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
  • Build systems that allow AI agents to use data as context, focusing on retrieval, freshness, structure, and governance.
  • Work on Data Intelligence products, such as Atlas, to turn platform capability into actionable intelligence.
  • Define clean boundaries and contracts between the data platform and agent/product teams.
  • Use AI and agentic workflows in platform development and operation, including agent-assisted development and adaptive pipeline orchestration.
  • Establish safe, observable, and auditable ways to integrate AI into data workflows.
  • Help surrounding teams adopt AI integration with confidence.
  • Build shared data platform practices, tooling, and self-service capabilities.
  • Treat the data platform as a product with internal users, defining and measuring adoption goals.
  • Drive direction and standards for data architecture and pipeline design across dependent teams.
  • Translate data platform decisions into terms leadership and product teams care about, such as data freshness, reliability, cost, and delivery speed.
  • Partner with product engineering, analytics, and data science teams to prioritize the 3-month plan based on measurable business and customer impact.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in data platform, infrastructure, or backend systems.
  • Track record of measurable impact in production environments.
  • Proven technical leadership background: establishing team vision and architecture, managing an iterative delivery roadmap, and taking accountability for successful releases.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks or a comparable lakehouse platform, plus modern pipeline orchestration tooling, strongly preferred.
  • Experience serving data to AI systems as context (retrieval, embeddings, feature or context serving, or similar) is a strong plus.
  • Experience building data systems, tools, or practices that were adopted broadly due to demonstrable improvements in speed, quality, reliability, or safety.
  • Experience building AI tools and agentic workflows, with a track record of practical application.
  • Strong technical judgment with a bias toward simplicity and adoption over theoretical completeness.
  • Ability to connect technical work to business and customer outcomes and communicate this connection clearly.
  • Experience partnering across engineering, product, and business functions.
  • High ownership mindset, curiosity, and urgency in a fast-moving, evolving technical environment.
  • Direct and kind communication style.
  • High agency, acting without waiting for permission on reversible decisions.
  • Ability to raise the bar by thinking from first principles and not rewarding merely fine work.
  • Ability to create a safe environment for asking questions, dissenting, and being wrong.
  • Intensity in work, meeting deadlines, flagging risks early, and finishing tasks.
  • Ability to dig for the real problem behind requests.
