About the Role
Solar One seeks a Director of STEM Education to lead various projects and programming for its K-12 Education team. This role involves administering, training, and managing STEM Educators and overseeing STEM programs.
Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and manage a team of educators (3-4)
- Hold regular 1:1 and team meetings
- Observe educators and provide evaluative feedback
- Promote educator upskilling and professional development
- Work with peer Directors to staff across other education programs
- Manage the STEM budget
- Reach or exceed revenue targets related to in-school and out-of-school time programming for youth
- Manage programming expenses
- Manage STEM program design, including goal setting, logic models, and tracking deliverables
- Market in-school and summer programs to school audiences
- Maintain partnerships and relationships with funders, including reporting and tracking metrics
- Lead Solar One’s professional development training series for teachers in NYC and NYS
- Oversee coordination of programs with schools and other community partners, including planning programs, coordinating materials, scheduling, and developing proposals
- Partnership development for mission-aligned programs
- Assist with grant writing and tracking
- Collaborate with other internal education programs
- Ensure staff have adequate program supplies and maintain inventory
- Manage curriculum resources for STEM program, ensuring resources are up-to-date and appropriate for teachers and students
- Attend network meetings for NYCSTEM Network, EEAC, or other comparable professional networks to stay abreast of changes or trends in the field
- Post-program reporting and evaluation
Requirements
- Five years of experience teaching K-12 students content aligned with STEM, climate action, and/or environmental sustainability
- Classroom experience is strongly preferred
- Five years of experience delivering professional development training to teachers
- Experience managing an education team
- Experience with curriculum development
- Experience managing a programmatic budget
- Knowledge of anti-racist and culturally responsive pedagogy is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in communicating with partner organizations and individuals to build and maintain strong partnerships
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook, and/or Google Suite, including Calendar, Docs, Spreadsheet, and Drive
