About the Role

Nova Scotia Health is seeking compassionate individuals accepted into an accredited Radiation Therapy program to join their team. This is an educational opportunity offering tuition sponsorship and potential clinical placement, with the expectation of a Return of Service agreement upon program completion. Successful candidates will be considered for future vacancies within the Radiation Therapy program at the Cape Breton Cancer Care Center.

Responsibilities

Accurately and precisely prepares a cancer patient and their chart for administration of a course of radiation treatments.
Fabricates accessories such as casts.
Performs treatment localization through operation of a conventional simulator and CT scanner with simulation software.
Performs treatment calculations, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of treatment plans, dosimetry, and outputs.
Enters data for record and verify system and online image acquisition system.
Delivers treatments including external beam therapy and brachytherapy in the OR, utilizing multiple units and technologies.
Handles radioactive sources.
Teaches and precepts students, residents, and visiting students in radiation therapy.

Requirements

Accepted into an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
A resident in the Province of Nova Scotia.
Agree to complete the program and sign a defined Return of Service agreement.

Skills

In-depth knowledge of treatment plans, dosimetry and outputs.
Operation of a conventional simulator.
Operation of CT scanner with simulation software.
Record and verify system operation.
Online image acquisition system operation.
External beam therapy delivery.
Brachytherapy delivery.
Handling of radioactive sources.
