About the Role
Software Engineers will use their skills to build and operationalize platforms that turn underwriting expertise into automated, auditable risk decisions. In the past year, the team has shipped a multi-tenant rules engine, deployed automated workflows, stood up event-streaming pipelines, and integrated an agentic development workflow.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with team members to design, build, test, and ship features across the stack - from Python (FastAPI) backend services to a React + TypeScript frontend
- Model complex domain logic - rule graphs, execution state, and lifecycle workflows - as clean, deterministic, well-tested code
- Design and maintain PostgreSQL-backed, multi-tenant data models, including schema migrations and tenant isolation
- Integrate security throughout the engineering lifecycle - authentication/authorization (OAuth2/OIDC), RBAC, and CI/CD
- Work with existing engineering, data science, and underwriting groups at Munich Re to develop and apply software development best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Intermediate knowledge of principles of software development
- Familiarity with Python and web frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or similar)
- Familiarity with TypeScript/JavaScript and a modern React framework (React or Next.js)
- Knowledge of relational databases (RDBMS), ideally PostgreSQL, and data modeling
- Version control with Git and the ability to submit well-structured Pull Requests
- Strong written technical communication skills
- Working knowledge of Linux and familiarity with cloud computing
- Infrastructure: containerization, orchestration, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code
- Backend depth: SQL ORMs, authentication & authorization, multi-tenant systems
- Async programming, event streaming (SSE/websockets), and observability tooling
- Interest in domain modeling, rules engines, workflow/DAG execution, or compilers/interpreters
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.
- Unable to consider candidates who require current or future sponsorship, including Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
