About the Role

The Credit Risk Management (CRM) area within the Chief Risk Office is establishing a new Energy Trading Credit Risk team. As a senior Credit Officer, you will manage credit risk for energy trading transactions, covering oil, natural gas, emissions, and UK/US power. You will provide expert guidance, propose risk-mitigating structures, and partner with Front Office, Market Risk, Legal, and Senior CRM Management to ensure robust risk oversight and optimal risk/return outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and monitoring counterparty credit limits and ratings.
  • Performing detailed credit analysis, reviewing due diligence/counterparty profiles and transaction request memos.
  • Reviewing documentation terms and proposing appropriate risk-mitigation.
  • Approving/declining transactions within delegated credit authority and providing recommendations for larger exposures.
  • Managing the end-to-end credit lifecycle of transactions/counterparties.
  • Monitoring the portfolio for emerging risks, trends, and concentration risks.
  • Interfacing with senior management, business units, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement in processes, analytics, and reporting capabilities.
  • Supporting digitalization/AI initiatives and internal/external audit engagements.
  • Partnering with Front Office leadership to provide constructive challenge and shape risk-mitigating transaction structures.
  • Leading collaboration across Market Risk, Legal, Operations, and other control functions.
  • Influencing Senior CRM Management and governance committees through clear recommendations and escalation of emerging risks.

Requirements

  • Extensive relevant energy trading credit assessment experience.
  • Solid analytical skills, including derivatives transaction structuring and financial modelling/forecasting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and optimize workflows, applying critical judgment for responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
  • Sound judgment and decisiveness.
