About the Role
The Rockefeller Center Operations Facilities Engineering team manages Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Alarm and Fire Protection (MEPS) systems for operations within the 30 Rock Campus and other sites. The VP Facilities Engineering & Critical Infrastructure will provide strategic leadership, reliability, resilience, and operational performance for mission-critical infrastructure supporting technology facilities, data centers, and office space, ensuring world-class uptime and minimizing operational risk.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the integrity and operation of facilities critical infrastructure systems for 99.999% on-air performance.
- Develop and execute long-term critical infrastructure strategy aligned with business growth and technology requirements.
- Establish reliability, resiliency, and sustainability objectives for all critical facilities.
- Lead infrastructure modernization, capacity planning, and lifecycle replacement programs.
- Ensure continuous operation of all mission-critical infrastructure, including electrical distribution, UPS, generators, chiller plants, BMS, EPMS, and fire protection systems.
- Drive uptime and reliability programs focused on eliminating single points of failure.
- Establish and monitor infrastructure performance through KPIs and executive dashboards.
- Lead root cause analyses for significant incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Manage a union-represented staff of approximately 45 engineers and electricians providing 24/7/365 coverage.
- Manage an internal NBCU team of mechanical and electrical engineers.
- Review work tickets, staff productivity, budgets, and vendor relationships for KPI compliance.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.
- Track and trend critical system usage and reserve capacity to inform business decisions.
- Respond to and provide solutions for critical system issues, documenting incident reports.
- Develop Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and project work.
- Provide technical assistance to the Fire Life Safety team for fire alarm systems.
- Oversee all MEP projects and coordinate with third-party engineers and contractors.
- Perform long-term strategic planning of capital projects, including budgeting, scoping, and execution.
- Collaborate with business units on projects utilizing critical infrastructure systems.
- Oversee and schedule off-hours work for system upgrades, cutovers, or broadcast events.
- Maintain communication with utility companies to manage issues and coordinate preventative maintenance.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience managing mission-critical infrastructure data center operations.
- 10+ years of leadership experience.
- Understanding of the latest technologies and design philosophies for critical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of all MEPS systems.
- Understanding of construction projects and methodologies.
- Requires 24/7 availability for emergencies.
- Willing to work in New York and travel as needed.
- Must be 18 years or older.
