About the Role

East Side House (ESH) is a community resource dedicated to expanding opportunities for individuals, families, and communities through education, career, and supportive services. The Assistant Director will maintain a safe and educational learning environment for young children by implementing program curriculum and daily activities, while also providing office and program support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of COMPASS Program.
  • Review and update curriculum, educational objectives, and program design.
  • Prepare and submit reports to program leadership.
  • Work with parents, DOE teachers, and community providers to ensure a collaborative environment.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with program personnel and other building staff.
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision of COMPASS part-time staff.
  • Oversee coordination of program schedules, calendar, and vacation coverage.
  • Oversee development and implementation of daily programming and review lesson plans.
  • Coordinate regular communication with COMPASS families, including newsletters, flyers, events, and parent-teacher nights.
  • Conduct parent and parent/child conferences as necessary.
  • Develop and support COMPASS staff in the coordination of special events.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, prioritizing the safety and care of children.
  • Ensure effective administrative systems are in place and programming areas are clean and well-maintained.
  • Monitor and guide proper student behavior.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records, such as attendance, snack, time sheets, and incident reports.
  • Monitor transitions to the cafeteria and ensure upkeep of the space.
  • Oversee compliance with ESH, DYCD, DOE, and DOH standards.
  • Attend Agency and DOE wide events.
  • Co-facilitate staff meetings and support agenda development.
  • Manage supply inventory and submit purchase requests.
  • Continue professional development by attending required meetings and trainings.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as needed.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly observations and site walkthroughs.

Requirements

  • Must be able to fulfill all elements of the job description to the highest standard.
  • Must be able to work well with colleagues in a high energy and collaborative work environment.
  • Employees must be clear to work at ESH.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
