About the Role
The NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs) aim to reduce barriers for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV). FJCs offer a co-located, multidisciplinary approach, providing social services, civil legal, and criminal justice assistance under one roof. As a Client Navigator, you will connect clients to appropriate services, conduct initial assessments, and guide them through the FJC service model.
Responsibilities
- Welcome clients and provide an overview of the FJC service delivery model, including confidentiality, referral processes, and available services.
- Screen clients to assess eligibility, service needs, and safety requirements.
- Handle voicemails and conduct virtual screenings as needed.
- Notify supervisors of high-risk clients.
- Provide crisis intervention and address immediate client needs.
- If no case manager is available, provide safety planning and advocacy.
- Determine appropriate referrals for case management, mental health, legal services, economic empowerment, and law enforcement.
- Complete necessary forms and communicate pertinent information to partner staff.
- Conduct brief screenings for established clients and connect them with their case manager, providing safety assessments if the case manager is unavailable.
- Provide service referrals and linkages for clients not eligible for FJC services.
- Maintain communication with clients in waiting areas, answering questions and providing updates on wait times.
- Escalate client distress or emergencies to supervisors and administrative staff.
- Collaborate with reception staff to refer clients and make appointments.
- Enter client information into the FJC client application daily and track additional data.
- Support efforts to solicit client feedback through surveys and follow-up calls.
- Provide coverage for the Front-Line Advocate as needed.
- Adhere to AAFSC and FJC confidentiality practices and protocols.
- Perform other tasks that enhance the mission of the FJCs.
Requirements
- Associate degree required.
- At least two years of relevant work experience (e.g., working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, providing advocacy services).
- Understanding of the dynamics and complexities of domestic and gender-based violence.
- Understanding of the systems that impact survivors' lives.
- Demonstrated commitment to utilizing trauma-informed engagement practices with survivors.
- Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary, diverse team.
- Commitment to delivering services grounded within a racial equity lens.
- U.S. Work Authorization required.
- Must meet screening requirements, which may include background check, fingerprinting, and State Central Registry clearance.
