About the Role
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan dedicated to expanding opportunities for individuals and families through education, career, and supportive services. The Social Worker is integral to integrating social services into the fabric of the programs and communities served, acting as a primary leader for wrap-around services, designing social work programs, and responding to participant needs and crises.
Responsibilities
- Complete initial needs assessment with participant/family.
- Build relationships with participating clients through consistent individual/group counseling sessions or mediations.
- Develop plan for interventions, including gathering information from program leaders, staff, and members.
- Use validated tools to screen consenting members for mental health symptoms and re-screen members at appropriate intervals.
- Facilitate one-on-one sessions and/or group sessions for psychoeducation based on selected evidence-based interventions.
- Provide on-site clinical counseling services ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
- Provide community referrals for participants and family as needed.
- Follow up on referrals to determine outcomes and help resolve barriers.
- Provide linkage between participant/family and community resources.
- Provide clinical counseling and connections to additional treatment as needed.
- Make recommendations to promote engagement and increase program participation.
- Maintain a HIPAA compliant professional work environment.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents and their families.
- Complete appropriate paperwork and recommend improvements for department operations.
- Serve as an internal liaison to link participants and families with ESH’s various programs.
- Supervise and manage the performance of all designated employees within the department.
Requirements
- Commitment to demonstrating ESH’s organizational values of Excellence, Integrity, Compassion, Empathy, and Community.
- SIFI Certification strongly preferred with at least one year’s experience supervising social work interns.
- Knowledge of the network of social services available to parents and families in New York.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- At least three (3) years of successful and relevant supervisory experience and direct experience in mental health counseling, e.g. trauma-informed care.
- Experience working with the community served by East Side House Settlement.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively with staff members.
- Diverse cultural competence required.
- Interest in and comfort with working with data informed practice.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel, email correspondence, and database management.
- Clearance to work at ESH, contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
