About the Role
The Safety Coordinator (Power) supports HSE and operations teams in driving regional health, safety, and environmental objectives across permanent power generation facilities. This role is responsible for site-level regulatory compliance, auditing generation and battery energy storage systems, supporting electrical safety programs, and embedding HSE requirements into construction and commissioning phases. The role provides guidance to reduce injuries, incidents, property damage, and environmental releases.
Responsibilities
- Lead site-level compliance with OSHA, EPA, state environmental agencies, and local authorities for permanent power generation facilities.
- Conduct comprehensive HSE audits of generation and battery storage systems.
- Maintain site HSE documentation, permits, and recordkeeping.
- Support implementation and auditing of electrical safety programs, including high-voltage systems, arc flash hazard analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and energized work controls.
- Oversee safety controls and emergency planning related to battery energy storage systems (BESS), including thermal runaway mitigation and fire response protocols.
- Develop and maintain site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and coordinate drills.
- Participate in commissioning and transition activities, ensuring HSE requirements are embedded.
- Partner with Project Management during site buildouts to ensure contractor safety compliance.
- Conduct field audits during construction and transition phases.
- Provide expertise in incident investigations to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures.
- Track and analyze leading and lagging indicators to recommend risk-reduction strategies.
- Conduct field engagements, safety observations, and toolbox talks.
- Comply with all Atlas Energy Solutions policies, procedures, and work requirements.
- Report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2 - 4 years of HSE experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or heavy industrial operations with a bachelor’s degree; 4+ years with an associate degree in a related technical discipline; or 6+ years of progressive HSE experience supporting high-energy, industrial, or construction operations with a high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience supporting electrical safety programs, including NFPA 70E implementation, arc flash hazard mitigation, and LOTO.
- Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations using root cause methodologies such as TapRooT, 5-Why, or Fishbone.
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and reporting procedures, including OSHA and EPA.
- Experience interacting with state and local authorities having jurisdiction.
- Ability to work in both construction and operational environments during site transition phases.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to instruct and influence operations leadership, contractors, regulators, and customers.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities.
- Ability to travel to regional sites.
- Ability to respond to incidents outside of standard business hours.
- Valid Driver’s License.
