About the Role
An internship at PlainsCapital Bank offers valuable insight into the banking industry through on-the-job and formal training. Gain hands-on experience with credit analyst and lending teams, observe client presentations and networking events, and learn how various departments operate to serve customers.
Responsibilities
- Observe the day-to-day activities of Loan Officers and Credit Analysts through experienced mentors.
- Observe and practice the processes for spreading financial statements and underwriting loans of different sizes and complexities within various industries.
- Perform analysis commensurate with experience level and formulate quality questions to enhance loan request underwriting.
- Participate in loan committee meetings to gain insight on the loan approval process.
- Observe how loan packages are prepared and sent to Loan Services for booking/funding; review loan set-up worksheets to identify missing information and work with Loan Officer and Loan Assistant to complete the package.
- Observe how new business is generated through referrals, prospecting, and networking.
- Gain an understanding of the Bank’s target customer profile through industry research and preparation of prospect materials.
- Network with leaders within the lending division and meet with product partners to learn about complementary services/programs offered to clients.
- Learn to effectively interact with employees, vendors, and clients and enhance verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Participate in training opportunities offered through the Banker Development Program when appropriate.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a four-year, accredited college or university.
- Strong preference for Finance or Accounting major or concentration.
- Supplemental finance/accounting coursework for those not actively pursuing a Finance or Accounting major can also be considered.
- Must be in good standing at the college or university.
- Must be eligible to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship now or at any point in the future.
- Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills demonstrated through previous work experience, other internships, and/or extracurricular activities.
