About the Role

Glenwell, a DePaul Senior Living Community, is seeking a part-time Medication Technician for the evening shift. This role involves administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents safely and efficiently, adhering to state and community guidelines. The Medication Aide also provides personal care as needed, as outlined in the Resident Care Assistant (RCA) position description.

Responsibilities

Administer medications and treatments to residents accurately and on time, as prescribed by the physician.
Document all administered medications and treatments according to policy and procedures.
Observe and document resident responses to medications and treatments, noting any therapeutic or adverse effects.
Maintain an organized, clean, and secure medication cart and medication room.
Order medications and supplies in a timely manner to ensure resident availability.
Follow facility and pharmacy guidelines for ordering, returning, and discontinuing medication orders.
Prepare medications for residents leaving the facility for extended periods or arrange for pharmacy delivery.
Accurately process physician orders and transcribe them to the Medication Administration Record.
Ensure the security of controlled substances and maintain accurate record-keeping.
Practice appropriate infection control techniques and universal precautions when preparing and administering medications.
Perform resident care duties as described in the RCA position description.
Participate in the required twelve (12) hours of medication in-service education annually.
Assist in providing a therapeutic and homelike environment for residents.

Requirements

Must pass the Medication Technician training provided by DePaul within 90 days of completing the Medication Skills Checklist.
Must possess a working knowledge of resident care, specifically for the geriatric and adult special care needs population.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Must have required references and criminal record check.
Must be in good standing with the Healthcare Personnel Registry.
Must complete required annual Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Annual Health Assessment in accordance with New York State Regulations.
Ability to communicate with residents and others in the English language.
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
Ability to visually observe residents.
Ability to audibly hear call bells, emergency systems, and verbal needs expressed by residents.
Ability to turn, stoop, bend, and stretch to assist residents.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Ability to manipulate equipment (sphygmomanometer, Accucheck, thermometer, etc.).
Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies, such as evacuating residents and visitors during a fire.
Ability to push medication cart down the hallway without assistance.
