About the Role
You will run the day-to-day operations of our lab in London, managing consumables, stock, equipment, suppliers, and waste streams. This role involves ensuring data provenance by accurately capturing lot numbers, defining and implementing inventory and ordering systems, and specifying automated sample handling and stock control systems.
Responsibilities
- Run the day-to-day operations of the lab
- Manage consumables and stock
- Manage goods in and cold chain
- Manage equipment servicing and calibration
- Manage suppliers and purchasing
- Manage waste streams and safety records
- Ensure data provenance by capturing lot numbers
- Define inventory and ordering system requirements
- Specify automated sample handling and stock control systems
- Work with software teams to implement barcoding and scanning systems
Requirements
- Two or more years running a lab or comparable physical operation, hands-on and accountable for the result
- Practical stock control experience: goods in, inventory records, reorder points, stock counts that reconcile
- Experience buying from suppliers: raising orders, comparing quotes, managing lead times
- Hands-on experience with a barcoded or scanned stock system
- Experience in a lab environment including cold storage, hazardous waste, containment, and controlled materials
- Experience where being out of stock stops the work (biotech, pharma, university, institute lab, or manufacturing/diagnostics operation)
- Familiarity with lab consumables and the rhythm of a working lab
- Ability to run the lab without needing to learn basic operational needs
