About the Role
The Entry-Level Process Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of manufacturing facilities and equipment, supporting facility infrastructure and critical utility systems. This role involves executing engineering calculations, supporting process design documentation, and potentially assisting field installation teams. The engineer will collaborate with various internal and external team members to ensure coordinated and constructible designs.
Responsibilities
- Supports the documentation of the process design scope in coordination with other disciplines.
- Works closely with architects, engineers, and designers to ensure a coordinated design.
- Self-checks own work and communicates frequently with peers and supervisors.
- Manages time effectively to work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Solves complex problems under the direction of a mentor or supervisor.
- Participates in all levels of design, including studies, conceptual design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Works on matters of basic complexity in a support role.
- Develops Block and Process Flow Diagrams.
- Creates User Requirements Specifications.
- Compiles Equipment Lists.
- Generates Equipment General Arrangements.
- Prepares Equipment Datasheets.
- Develops Utility Summaries.
- Creates Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Requirements
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical or bioprocess engineering.
- 0 to 3 years of experience in a design firm setting.
- Fundamentals of Engineering exam registration or completion preferred.
- Fundamental experience with performing engineering calculations.
- Fundamental experience developing and implementing list of discipline systems designs.
- Fundamental experience with chemistry/biochemistry.
- Fundamental experience with process modeling, material and energy balances and basic sizing calculations.
- Fundamental experience with fluid mechanics, hydraulic modeling and fundamental heat transfer.
- Strong communication skills and ability to participate in internal cross-discipline project team coordination.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required.
- Proficiency in engineering software applications including computer-aided drafting, process modeling and calculation programs.
