About the Role
We're looking for an Observability Senior Engineer Lead who can bring clarity to enterprise platforms across legacy systems, cloud-native architecture and emerging AI environments. This role is for someone who understands that observability is not just about uptime, infrastructure metrics or dashboard coverage. It is about helping organisations connect technology performance to the outcomes that matter: resilience, compliance, cost, customer experience and business confidence.
Responsibilities
- Design instrumentation and observability architectures for complex enterprise environments.
- Present recommendations to client technical leaders, explain design decisions, and work through trade-offs.
- Turn telemetry into practical insight and operational, customer, and commercial outcomes.
- Help clients answer questions about instrumentation, connecting technical signals to business impact, identifying risks, and improving AI and platform environments.
- Define the right instrumentation and shape observability strategy.
- Turn thinking into outcomes and stay accountable.
Requirements
- Combine deep technical expertise with consulting experience.
- Build trust with clients by offering clear, evidence-based advice.
- Understand how enterprise, legacy, cloud-native and AI platforms behave in production.
- Balance scope, price, time, and quality with confidence and care.
- Challenge assumptions constructively and stay curious.
- Focus on measurable value, not technology for its own sake.
- Can design a solution, explain trade-offs, respond to challenge, and help deliver the outcome.
- Advised clients in a consulting or professional services environment and understand how to work across technical, commercial, and stakeholder priorities.
- Based in Australia and able to work with Australian clients and teams.
- Solid experience across OpenTelemetry, platform engineering, and SRE practices.
- Reason from first principles about instrumentation, collector architecture, sampling, pipeline design, and production reliability.
- Understand how AI-enabled and agentic systems are designed, evaluated, and operated in production.
- Think critically about architecture, reliability, governance, risk, and operational impact of AI systems.
- Practical experience across the AWS ecosystem, including container and orchestration platforms (e.g., EKS), data lake and analytics services (e.g., S3, Glue, Athena), streaming ingestion (e.g., Kinesis), and applied AI (e.g., Bedrock).
- Comfortable reasoning about how AWS services fit together in a production architecture.
- Hold at least one relevant certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog) or equivalent credential.
- Demonstrate depth in at least one platform and apply that depth in client environments.
- Comfortable working across major cloud, SaaS, and enterprise platform environments.
- Subject to background screening.
