About the Role
The West Region Delivery Team is seeking an Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Sydney Water. You will provide environmental advice, identify and manage risks, implement controls, and ensure compliance across active construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day environmental support and guidance to project delivery teams.
- Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments across construction sites.
- Monitor and report on compliance with environmental management plans, approvals, permits, and legislative requirements.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls.
- Assist with environmental risk assessments and identify opportunities to improve environmental performance.
- Investigate environmental incidents, non-conformances, and complaints, and support corrective actions.
- Prepare environmental reports, monitoring records, and project compliance documentation.
- Deliver environmental awareness training and guidance to project personnel and subcontractors.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of environmental management processes and systems.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in an Environmental Advisor or similar role within civil infrastructure construction.
- Experience working on linear infrastructure projects such as water, wastewater, roads, rail, utilities, or similar construction environments.
- Practical experience with erosion and sediment control planning, implementation, and monitoring, including a strong understanding of Blue Book requirements.
- Experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, incident investigations, and compliance assessments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build effective working relationships across site teams.
Skills
- Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (tertiary qualifications)
- Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and environmental management systems.
- Strong report writing skills and the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and concise environmental documentation.
