About the Role
Huckleberry House provides youth experiencing instability with temporary shelter, therapy, case management, and linkage to additional services. This role involves direct supervision of youth, crisis counseling, and supporting case management activities to empower young people.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of youth in the shelter, on outings, and during meetings/appointments.
- Conduct intake assessments with youth and engage with parents, legal guardians, and other involved adults.
- Provide crisis counseling for clients and families in person and over the phone.
- Answer phones, respond to crisis, business, information, and referral calls.
- Assist with case management tasks, including referrals and collaboration with community partners and clinicians.
- Participate in a minimum of one overnight shift per week.
- Support with emergency shift coverage when necessary.
- Supervise clients at all times in alignment with their case plan and daily schedule.
- Supervise activities including group time, homework time, meal time, phone time, and bedtime prep.
- Supervise clients on an awake overnight shift and ensure compliance with licensing regulations.
- Ensure community agreements are upheld by clients and staff for client safety.
- Educate clients on tools, themes, and resources to improve life skills, coping skills, and case plan goals.
- Reinforce and model boundaries and conflict resolution.
- Conduct client check-ins as needed or requested.
- Support with creating, planning, and/or facilitating activities for clients.
- Create a safe environment for youth to explore healing, personal growth, and self-advocacy.
- Provide support with maintaining a clean and safe facility, including light cleaning and organization.
- Complete the Overnight Checklist during awake overnight shifts.
- Notify management of facility repairs and support coordination of repairs.
- Ensure all Community Care Licensing regulations are followed.
- Attend daily client review meetings, weekly staff meetings, weekly supervision check-ins, and other agency meetings.
Requirements
- Perform all core tasks in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
- Previous experience engaging with youth and their families in a setting that promoted youth advocacy, case management, youth-centered services, and/or provides crisis services.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and an awake overnight shift.
- Possess a valid CA driver’s license and a driving history that allows enrollment into the Agency's auto policy.
- Historically demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Highly organized, creative, and innovative.
- Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks.
- Candidates with backgrounds including items on the non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible.
- Applicants must be at least twenty-one years of age as of the beginning of the assignment.
- Must be able to make an 11-month commitment.
- Applicants must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
