About the Role
WSECU is seeking a Data Scientist to analyze datasets, enhance products and services, and improve member financial lives. This role involves challenging current thinking on how offerings meet member needs within a new, multidisciplinary team focused on credit union industry transformation through big data analytics and machine learning.
Responsibilities
- Work with end-users and analysts to model complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, and visualization techniques.
- Model and frame business scenarios with direct impact on critical business processes and decisions.
- Interview end-users to determine requirements for data, reports, analysis, and performance.
- Assist in building WSECU’s capability and strategy to understand and assess new products, and evaluate existing ones.
- Distill insights from member data to address key business challenges and provide actionable recommendations.
- Solve business problems and find patterns and insights within structured and unstructured data.
- Develop and communicate data insights and recommendations clearly and concisely.
- Provide expertise on mathematical concepts to the applied Analytics and Insights team and promote advanced analytics adoption across the organization.
Requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of the financial and economic levers impacting WSECU’s business performance.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively utilize techniques to derive insights.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate operational and technical issues to diverse audiences.
- Strong data storytelling abilities.
- Expertise in econometric modeling, statistical and predictive modeling, or machine-learning approaches (e.g., clustering, classification, recommendation, optimization algorithms).
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including writing executive and board-level reports.
- Human relation skills and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal staff and external individuals/vendors.
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington.
- Reliable, high-speed home internet connection.
