About the Role

We are seeking a Data Science Manager to lead credit performance measurement and monitoring within our Risk & Payments pillar. This is a player-coach role where you will manage a team of Credit Data Scientists and Analysts, balancing hands-on analysis with team leadership, direction setting, people development, and owning the function's output. You will be responsible for the frameworks and metrics that ensure our credit products remain healthy and drive deep-dive analyses to explain performance shifts and translate them into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Own credit performance measurement, including designing and maintaining Cleo's risk metric framework (arrears, default, yield, LTV, marginal loss), and the dashboards/alerts that identify arrears spikes, roll-rate shifts, and decisioning anomalies.
  • Bridge model health and business decisions by partnering with Risk Modelling to translate model metrics (AUC, PSI, calibration, drift) into policy and product recommendations, and diagnose performance drivers.
  • Lead root-cause analysis end-to-end (question → analysis → recommendation) on issues like arrears spikes or yield compression using driver analysis (SHAP, feature importance, decomposition), and present findings to Risk, Product, and Leadership.
  • Support policy and decisioning by working with Credit Policy and Decision Science to build evaluation frameworks for policy changes, quantify their marginal impact, and support elasticity/profitability modelling on pricing and limits.
  • Manage and develop a team of Credit Data Scientists and Analysts, setting priorities, managing performance, and fostering team growth beyond direct project work.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL and Python skills, comfortable working directly from the warehouse.
  • Proven track record of owning analyses end-to-end, from framing the question to implementing recommended changes.
  • Hands-on experience with predictive models (credit, fraud, or similar), with fluency in AUC/Gini, calibration, PSI/CSI, and drift.
  • Fluency in credit portfolio metrics (arrears buckets, roll rates, loss rate, yield/marginal loss) and their connection to unit economics.
  • Experience directly managing analysts or data scientists, including setting priorities, managing performance, and people development.
  • Experience with short-term or revolving credit products is a plus.
  • Experience with both UK and US regulatory frameworks is a plus.
