About the Role

Under supervision, the Residential Life Assistant assists with student life programming, student supervision, chaperoning field trips, and doctor visits, prioritizing the safety, health, and wellness of students and staff. This role requires the assistant to be at least 21 years old and includes complimentary housing and a meal plan.

Responsibilities

  • Serves "in-loco parentis" for students living in the facility and responds to any emergency.
  • Reinforces residents’ compliance with fire, safety, security and curfew guidelines and procedures.
  • Triages all urgent matters involving the students and residence and communicates with parents.
  • Supervises minor students to scheduled, urgent, and emergency doctor’s appointments.
  • Cultivates, coordinates, and assists in the development of student leadership and responsibility through programming and direct involvement with students.
  • Oversees and assures student timely participation in housekeeping assignments, events, activities, bed-check, and curfew.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs and events with a focus on high quality, safe and age-appropriate activities.
  • Educates students to be supportive community members who are responsible for their actions and behavior.
  • Communicates with students regarding the rationale behind policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with students through individual contacts, meetings, and discussions.
  • Coordinates implementation of roommate agreement and community agreement process.
  • Applies fair and consistent disciplinary standards for all dormitory students.
  • Refers all major disciplinary offenses to the Manager of Residential Life or Manager, Student Services.
  • Manages some facility systems including room assignments, badge issuance, maintenance and usage of office space, common room, kitchen, storage areas, laundry room, room check.
  • Assumes "on-call" responsibility on a scheduled basis.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must commit to employment through June 6, 2027.
  • Employment subject to a successful Live Scan background check and fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to physically assist an injured student which may include lifting the individual and supporting their weight with your shoulders or carrying the injured student.
  • Must be able to lift boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to climb/descend stairs.

  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce San Francisco Ballet School (SFBS) and SFCM/Bowes Center emergency and safety guidelines.

Experience Level

  • 1-2 years of previous experience of working with adolescents, preferably as a Residential Assistant in a college or other dormitory.

Education Level

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

Salary/Compensations

  • $23.00 - $25.00 Hourly
